The Mayor’s Faith-based Development Initiative was launched to build a pipeline of community-based organizations that can fully leverage existing development incentives and other resources to produce permanently affordable housing units across Atlanta. This initiative should spur the creation of at least 2000 units of affordable housing over the next eight years as part of the administration's 20,000 unit goal.

The Neighborhood and Housing Services Department launched its first pilot program in FY2020 to establish partnerships with mission oriented organizations, such as faith based communities, to meet the affordable housing needs of San Antonio. Through this pilot program we will work with mission oriented groups with available land and an interest in providing affordable housing. The City has allocated $300,000 to provide technical assistance and navigate our partners through the development process. By leveraging the City’s existing resources and partnerships we can further the City’s goal of meeting the affordable housing need.

To address displacement and support community resilience, we developed land use policies to support faith communities seeking to create affordable housing. This new tool gives religious organizations more flexibility to redevelop their land with long-term, income-restricted affordable housing.
